Boilers are durable if anything. They’re some of the most long-lasting and durable systems on the market if that’s what you’re looking for. We recommend them for homeowners that are tired of forced-air heating and want a powerful system that will last them with minor repairs and maintenance over a couple of decades.
That being said, there’s a catch. Boilers are durable as long as you treat them well. Some boilers run into early replacements and extremely expensive repairs needs only after one or two years due to neglect. Sure, we offer boiler service in Westlake, OH for everything that you might need, but wouldn’t it be nice if we helped prevent the need for boiler service?
Today, we’re going to talk about the do’s and don’ts of boiler malfunctions. We’ll cover everything from what you should do to your boiler, to what you should neverโunder any circumstancesโdo to your boiler.
What to Do
Being a boiler owner might seem boring, or it might seem like you’re not supposed to do anything, but that’s not true! While the best heating systems will let you live your life as carefree as possible, there are some things that should be done for your boiler system to ensure it’s running properly month to month.
- Schedule maintenance. Maintenance is the best way to maximize efficiency levels, allow for comfortable heat throughout your home, and to keep your system for as long as possible. A well-maintained boiler will cost much less to repair over time and it will last longer!
- Pay close attention. If your boiler starts making funny noises, or starts costing too much to run every month, then there’s clearly something wrong. Don’t ignore it or think that the problem will fix itself. This is what we call in the industry neglect!
- Recognize hot or cold spots. If certain parts of your home aren’t being heated appropriately, this could be a problem. Boilers circulate hot water to heat your home through radiant heatingโso a cold room or area might mean there’s a leak in the pipes or something’s frozen. Schedule repairs or at least an appointment today.
- Call for repairs early. The faster you call our team for repairs, the better off you’ll likely be down the line. Repairs that are allowed to fester will become more expensive and compound into additional issues.
What Not to Do
If you’ve ever thought about doing one of these things, we implore you to take a step back and think about what you’re doing. Leave the complicated and unsafe stuff to us.
- Open up your system and repair it. Not only could this void the warranty, but your system could have many additional troubles when an untrained hand starts making adjustments.
- Patch a leak. Leaks might seem easy to patch up, but they require a professional’s assessment to really get to the root of the problem.
- Flush the system. While a professional can flush a boiler system easily, you should never try this on your own.
