Winter is here in Westlake, OH and ideally, you won’t need to seriously think about replacing an old heating system until the spring. Sometimes that just isn’t possible, however. Either your heater suffers a catastrophic breakdown, the upteenth repair is just one step too far, or you’d like to take advantage of the monthly savings of a new unit now, while winter is still going strong. Whatever the case, you’re getting a new heater! If you’ve made the commitment to purchase one, you also might want to consider a few other upgrades, which you can add on the cost of installation, and which can make your new heating unit perform that much better.
Thermostats
A thermostat is usually a separate component from the heater, and your existing one may be working just fine. But replacing a heater makes a great time to think about upgrading an old thermostat with one offering new amenities. For example, many new thermostats offer smart programming, which automatically adjusts the temperature according to your preferences, or remove activation that lets you control the system from an app on your phone.
Zone Control Systems
A zone control system divides your ducts into individual sections, with the air flow to each controlled by a separate thermostat. It allows you to set the temperature in each room individually, and more importantly, to turn off the heat in rooms you aren’t using (saving you money in the process).
Humidifiers
Humidifiers raise the moisture levels in the air of your home, combating the dry air that leads to irritated skin, static electricity, and an increased risk of cols among other things. Higher humidity also makes the air feel warmer, meaning that your heater doesn’t have to work so hard to do its job.
